Here’s one we overlooked in Bulletin 286: The Newly Discovered Case Book of Sherlock Holmes, episode 6, is tomorrow (Wednesday 28th) at 9.30am, 4.30pm (also 4.30am on 29th).

Sherlock Holmes: The Game’s Afoot, New Year’s Eve, 9.00am and 7.00. Stand by for 3 hours of undiluted joy in this Special programme, first broadcast in 2008 on BBC Radio7, in which Nick Utechin (who knows what he’s talking about!) looks at incarnations of the detective from the 1940s to more recent times. Included are  full episodes featuring Cedric Hardwicke and Finlay Currie, Ralph Richardson and John Gielgud, Carleton Hobbs and Norman Shelley, Clive Merrison and Michael Williams, also Clive Merrison and Andrew Sachs.

The Newly Discovered Case Book of Sherlock Holmes, episode 1 (of 6), Wednesday 4 January, 9.30am, 4.30pm (also 4.30am on 5th). As the stark reality of a cold bleak January starts to sink in, some Ho! Ho! Holmes starring the wonderful Roy Hudd  and June Whitfield could be just the tonic you need to help alleviate those post-Christmas blues. (Programme link available from Wednesday 28th)

Radio Times is giving away three free Sherlock Holmes books to its readers (but see below for Conditions*), starting with issue dated w/c 31 December 2016 (now on sale –the Sherlock cover gives you a clue). In exchange for the token provided, you can collect a free copy of The Adventure of the Six Napoleons and Other Stories (Penguin paperback) from a named retailer. The offer continues in the issue dated w/c 7 January 2017; you can collect a free copy of The Adventure of the Engineer’s Thumb and Other Stories with the second token. The giveaway finishes with issue dated 14 January; the final book is The Five Orange Pips and Other Stories.

*Re Conditions: A Post option is also provided; send £2 (and 1 token) for one book or £3 for all three (also include 3 tokens). The problem for customers in Northern Ireland is that none of RT’s partner stores trade here; it’s still good value for the money, though.
