News Bulletin 38

“And this promises to be interesting. It would be a pity to miss it.”

‘Sherlock Ends Its Run As A Reekingly Charismatic Show.’

Our headline quote is courtesy of Caitlin Moran (The Times, 14 August 2010), who if her regular TV column is anything to go by might just be Sherlock’s greatest fan.  The last episode in the current rerun of BBC1’s Sherlock is The Great Game (3/3), scheduled for Wednesday 3 August 2011 at 8.30pm http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00t4pgh. Way back on 8 August 2010, when it was originally screened, Radio Times in its ‘Pick of the Day’ feature said: ‘It’s all loopily enjoyable, with the thrill that comes when bold writing, smart direction and dashing performances join hands.’

Each episode can also be seen on the BBC iPlayer for up to 7 days following transmission. If that’s not enough for you, then why not get your hands on the Sherlock series DVD (it includes the pilot episode which was never shown on TV)? Amazon.co.uk is doing this for a knockdown £6.49 – a bargain by any stretch of the imagination. Anyone spot a lower price?

We had another one of those “Norbury” moments in our last bulletin (no.37), telling you that this was the first repeat run for the hit series.  Actually that happened late last year, on 28 November, 5 and 12 December 2010 if you wish to be pedantic.

No Need To Avoid This Scandal!

Did you miss The Legacy of Sherlock Holmes on Resonance 104.4FM on Tuesday 26 July 2011?  There’s been a problem or two trying to access the podcast at the link shown in our last bulletin but not to worry, thanks to Roger Johnson here’s a new link that will definitely take you to it http://soundcloud.com/radiohodder/the-legacy-of-sherlock-holmes.

The documentary was made to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the publication of A Scandal in Bohemia in the Strand Magazine. Resonance 104.4FM is a London-based community radio station.
