‘Speaking of my old friend and biographer, I would take this opportunity to remark that if I burden myself with a companion in my various little inquiries it is not done out of sentiment or caprice, but it is that Watson has some remarkable characteristics of his own to which in his modesty he has given small attention amid his exaggerated estimates of my own performances.’
Edward Hardwicke Dies.
It was with great sadness that we learned this morning of the passing of Edward Hardwicke, on Monday 16 May 2011 aged 78. Edward Hardwicke enjoyed a long and distinguished career on stage, television and cinema but will perhaps be best remembered for playing Dr. Watson in the highly acclaimed Sherlock Holmes (Granada) series on ITV from 1986 – 1994. For many of us, he was the best ever on screen Watson.
