It’s hardly the pairing some of us might have wished for as Conan Doyle’s most famous creation shares the bill with Mrs Christie’s Belgian sleuth in the last of the current series of ITV 3’s new documentary, The People’s Detective on Tuesday 5 October 2010 (9pm). Narrated by Caroline Quentin, the programme explores what makes the characters tick and includes archive footage. It’s repeated on Thursday 7 October 2010 at 8pm. Sounds interesting!

Back in series five (episode 11 of 25), CSI: Crime Scene Investigation did a Sherlock Holmes episode. Five USA are repeating it on Monday 4 October 2010 at 8pm.

According to the BBC.co.uk News/Entertainment & arts site , 27 September 2010, Stephen Fry is to play Sherlock’s older and smarter brother Mycroft, in the sequel to Warner Bros. Star of hit US TV show Mad Men, Jared Harris is set to play Holmes’ nemesis Professor Moriarty, according to Latino Review. Brad Pitt, Daniel-Day Lewis, Colin Firth and Russell Crowe had all been mentioned in connection with the role, The Guardian reported on 29 September 2010. http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2010/sep/29/jared-harris-moriarty-sherlock-holmes.
In case you missed it when previously announced, Noomi Rapace, who won critical acclaim for her part in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is being lined up for the female lead while Geraldine James, the actress who played the 221B landlady in the first film looks likely to reprise her role.
Guy Ritchie will be in the Director’s chair, again, with Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law returning to their respective roles as Holmes and Watson. The film which is due in cinemas in December 2011 is as yet untitled.
