February 2011 News Bulletin

“It is simplicity itself,” he remarked, chuckling at my surprise – “so absurdly simple that an explanation is superfluous.”

Sherlock’s Touch Of Frostbite.

We’d have been pulling out all the stops to share the good news if Sherlock had come up trumps at the 2011 NTAs at the O2 Arena in London. But, just in case anyone thought we might still be sulking, perhaps it’s best to say something or other about the events of Wednesday evening 26 January 2011.

This was never going to be an even contest anyway, once it was known that David Jason, on his last investigation as Chief Inspector Frost, was in the running for the Drama Performance award. It was a singular case of “Chop! Chop!” with all the contestants getting the order of the poll axe as David Jason showed again why he’s the nation’s favourite golden oldie. All we can say is well done to him and thoroughly deserved too!

Earlier that evening in the Drama category class, Waterloo Road proved that it didn’t need any lessons from the other three candidates, which included Sherlock, as it picked up the award. Ah well, there’s always next year to dream about. http://www.nationaltvawards.com/past-winners#y2010

What’s So New About This “New” Novel?

Unless you’ve been hiding under the duvet, you’ll know that there’s been quite a bit of stuff in the media about the “new” Sherlock Holmes novel from prolific children’s author (e.g.Alex Ryder) and screenwriter (e.g.Poirot) Anthony Horowitz.

Dozens of new Holmes stories are published every year so what’s the big deal about this particular one? It could all be to do with the fact that it’s been commissioned by the Conan Doyle Estate Ltd, thus giving it the “official” seal of approval. So, it’s inevitably a case of great expectations and the pressure is on for Horowitz to perform. We’ll have to wait until September for the book and perhaps in the meantime we should be talking this up (or down?) on our Forum Quarterdeck. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-12221226

InSite.

Due to technical problems, let’s blame Moriarty, we’ve temporarily taken the current Poll down while our webmaster gets it sorted. When this feature returns, we might just find that Maurice has created a brand new Poll for us, so fingers crossed. As for the rest of the site, it’s very much business as usual.
