Sherlock Grabs Another Piece of the Action.

Warner Bros Sherlock Holmes (2009) won the Best Action/Thriller category at the National Movie Awards which were presented in London on Wednesday 26 May 2010.

A Rare Event.

A signed copy of A Study in Scarlet, one of only two known to be in existence, is expected to fetch up to £400000 when it is auctioned at Sotheby’s in July 2010.

Will Sherlock Win the Popular Vote?

Will Sherlock Holmes (2009) come up trumps at this year’s National Movie Awards?  Movie fans, not critics or industry insiders, decide the winners at the NMAs and the Warner Bros blockbuster is one of five nominations in the Best Action/Thriller category.  You can watch it live, from London’s Royal Festival Hall on Wednesday 26 May 2010 on ITV1 at 8.00pm.  The host for the evening, providing just the right touch, is our very own James Nesbitt.


DVD Deals Instore.

Asda are selling the DVD of Warner Bros Sherlock Holmes (2009) for £8, but you have to buy another DVD from their selection to get the deal, otherwise it’s £12.99.  It’s £9.99 at Sainsbury’s and £10 at Tesco but the latter have an ‘exclusive digital download’ with their copies.


Woof!  Woof!

HMV has slashed the online price of the Sherlock Hound DVD to £10.99 – www.hmv.com.


Mayday Mayday Update.

Issues 98 (May) and 99 (June) will be issued simultaneously on week commencing Monday 24 May 2010.  Crewmates will find the e-copies in their inboxes by Monday evening.  The hard copy of each should be with subscribers by midweek.

DVD Day.

It’s here, at last!  The DVD and Blue-ray versions of Warner Bros blockbuster Sherlock Holmes (2009) are on sale and to rent in the  UK from Monday 17 May 2010.  It’s also on Sky Box Office and Film Flex from the same date.

DVD Due Monday 17 May 2010.

The UK release of Warner Bros Sherlock Holmes (2009) on DVD and Blu-ray disc (sale and rental) is due on Monday 17 May 2010.  The DVD is widely available on pre-order for £9.99 but the best deal, at the moment, seems to be from Tesco Direct www.tesco.co.uk.  They’re offering an ‘exclusive’ digital download (via PC or Mac) with each purchase, presumably with at least some of the extras you get on the Blu-ray disc.  Best price seen on the latter is £15.85, again across a range of outlets.


Kyladdie Wins Silver Blaze Wessex Cup.

The 3 -o’clock at Kempton Park on Bank Holiday Monday, 3 May 2010 was won by 9/4 Jt. Favourite Kyladdie in a 7-horse race.  The winner was trained by S. Gollings and ridden by John Fahey.

Bank Holiday Sherlockian Horse Racing.

“I glanced at the card to see the entries.”

The 3 o’clock, this Bank Holiday Monday (3 May 2010), at Kempton Park is being sponsored by The Sherlock Holmes Society of London.  The Silver Blaze Wessex Cup is a first for the Society and probably the first ever Sherlockian event of this type in the UK.  To view the race card on the Racing Post website look here http://www.racingpost.com/horses2/cards/home.sd?r_date=2010-05-03.


Sherlock’s a Marathon Man!

Ian Young, who ran the Virgin London Marathon (on Sunday 25 April 2010) as Sherlock Holmes, completed the course in 4 hours, 1 minute, 47 seconds, setting the record as the fastest book character.  The fastest TV character was Paul Franks, as a Dalek.  He did it in 4 hours, 1 minute, 46 seconds!  It’s still not too late to support the Sparks charity which Ian is trying to raise money for –  http://www.justgiving.com/ian-young0.
